Smoking Cessations Through the use of NRT, Nicotine Replacement Therapy |
By Carlos Scarpero
Not all people can stop smoking cold turkey or by cutting out certain amounts of cigarettes per day. Some require the use of Nicotine Replacement Therapy. The amounts of people who have had to use NRT to actually quit smoking are great in numbers. Most drug stores and pharmacies carry a wide array of NRT's such as nicotine replacement patches, nicotine replacement gum, and nicotine replacement sprays and lozenges. For every type of nicotine replacement therapy there are probably dozens of brands ranging from the moderately priced to the very high end prices. The effectiveness of each one for you should be the determining factor of what type, brand, and price you get. The amount of money you will save in the long run from not smoking should be kept in mind as well when you see some of the prices for nicotine replacement therapies.
Because nicotine is a drug that causes users to become dependent, the NRT will place the drug, nicotine, into the body. The route it takes to get into your body depends on what type of nicotine replacement therapy you
choose. If you are using nicotine replacement gum, the nicotine will enter your body through the juices of the gum.
There are different steps with most all nicotine replacement therapies. For instance, with the gum, you would start with Stage 1 that has a high amount of nicotine in it, later you will step down to Stage 2 and the dosage of nicotine will be less. This goes on until your nicotine dosage is low enough to not use the gum anymore.
Nicotine Replacement therapy, such as nicotine gum, work by allowing you to free up your mind from withdrawals. Without the NRT you would feel deprived of nicotine and you would constantly feel the cravings. With NRT, such as nicotine replacement gum, you will still be getting nicotine, but your body will not be ingesting all of the chemicals that cigarettes produce.

If the type of nicotine replacement therapy did not work for you, do not give up. Just because one type didn't work does not mean that another type won't. Talk to others that have successfully used an NRT to stop smoking.
